Beige cloth. Book specific line drawn multicolored illustration within a rectangle at the top of the cover with the title and a book appropriate symbol (flag, liberty bell, etc. at the bottom of the cover. Dust jacket matches the underlying cover. 8.75 x 6.5 (See below for sub formats 1a,1b, and 1c.)

Beige or green cloth except with a picture that is multicolored pictorial. It is similar to the earlier format pictures but slightly different. (See below for sub formats 1c and 1d.) Dust jacket is the same as the underlying cover with the exception of Book #3 which has text at the bottom of the jacket. 8.75 x 6.5.

Series Notes:
1. There is a chronology for these books. Although the books may appear exactly the same, they can be distinguished as being earlier or later.

From earliest to latest:
a. Photograph as frontispiece with no ads in the front. (First editions)
b. Colorized frontispiece picture with ads listing books of this series priced at 50 cents.
c. Colorized frontispiece picture with ads listing books of this series at 75 cents.
d. Colorized frontispiece picture with ads listing books of this series at $1.00.

2. The Format 1 books are found in a, b and c styles. Format 2 books are found in c and d styles.

3. The Story of the American Flag has a different cover in format 1a as compared to 1b-1c/2c-2d. The flag pictured at the bottom of the cover has its stars in rows rather than in a circle as is seen in the later books.

4. The Story of the White House is a book which summarizes the life and presidency of all the presidents up to the date of publication. Thus, dating this book can be done by looking at the last president mentioned in the book.

6. The dust jackets also went through a chronology of changes. The earliest had the Mother Stories Series on the back. Next the Patriotic Books were listed at 75 cents and later at $1.00.
