Henry Altemus Company      Volume: 1 - 15
Linen cloth. The covers are pictorial linen cloth taken from larger pictorial swatches. Paper label on the cover and the spine. Came in floral covered boxes. Dust jackets have been observed on some books in the 1920's. 6.75 x 5.25

PLEASE NOTE: THESE BOOKS MOSTLY USE TITLE PAGES THAT INDICATE AN 1890's-1902 COPYRIGHT. THIS INDICATES THE ALTEMUS EDITION THAT THESE BOOK PLATES ARE ORIGINALLY FROM. IT DOES NOT INDICATE THE DATE THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED. THE VERY EARLIEST THAT ANY OF THESE BOOKS WAS PUBLISHED WAS 1908. THE DATES IN THE CHART ABOVE REFLECT THE FIRST PUBLICATION IN THIS FORMAT.

Series Notes:
1. These books used the same plates as the Young People's Library. For the first number of years of publication the Young People's Library title pages were also used.
2. The first 10 books were published in 1908 and the complete 15 volume series was published from 1910 to 1926.
3. Also called Holiday Editions.
4. At this time 8 different linen swatches have been recognized. The original pictorial swatch is larger than the linen cloth needed to wrap the book. Thus, some books from the same swatch may not at first seem related. Below I have put together the composite swatches (as a best as I am able with current information) from the book covers. I think #7 and #8 eventually will be seen to be from the same swatch but at this time I cannot be sure. Thus, they are shown as separate entities.
5. The linen swatches numbered 2 and 3 were also used in the mid and late teens in Series #64/200.
6. Some books after 1923 had a plain cover with a paste-on noting the title with a jacket as shown below. Other post-1923 books had the illustrated linen swatch with the dust jacket shown below.
