- 25
New half vellum which is the same as the vellum from the Rose Carnation
Series (see below). Books #1-15 have the same illuminated pictorial
picture on the right of the cover as in formats #1-4. Books numbered
16-25 are originally from the Rose Carnation Series (#159). They have
an illuminated pictorial picture within a rectangle surrounded by a
floral pattern. The early jacket is identical to the dust jackets in
the earlier formats. Later the dust jacket pictures two girls walking.
The name of the series is at the top and the book and author is at the
bottom. 7.5 x 5.5.
Series Notes:
1. This series is also known as the Honor Bright Series in some early
catalogues.
2. The title page of Volume 1 stated Henry Altemus not Henry Altemus
Company throughout Format 1.
3. As of this date 16 different floral patterns have been noted in
format 1/2. The same title can have more than one floral pattern.
4. Regarding format 3:
a. The earliest books (early
1903) list only
to #14 on the jacket reverse.
b. 1903-1904 books list to #15
on the jacket reverse.
c. 1905-1906 books list to #16a
(Bobbie) on the jacket reverse.
5. Bobbie (#16a) was dropped in format 4.
6. The only thing that distinguishes books #16-25 in this series from
the Rose Carnation books is the dust jacket which identifies the book
as a member of the Dainty Series. The interior of these books is
unchanged from the Rose Carnation Series books.
7. Pictures of Books #16-25 can be seen in the Rose Carnation Series
listing.
8. Occasionally a title has been seen with two different illuminated
pictorial covers in formats #3 and #4. |
