Henry Altemus (Henry Altemus Co. in 1900 and later)
Blue or green cloth. Blindstamped with gold gilt mythological portrait
on the front cover. The early dust jacket is brown uncoated with the
book title and editor on the cover. The later dust jacket is brown
uncoated with a picture which matches the book cover. 7.75 x 5.5.
Series Notes:
1. These books were reprinted for many years.
2. Books published after 1922 have "Printed in U.S.A." on the bottom of
the copyright page. (See below)
3. In 1901-1902 both books were part of the Popular Library. http://henryaltemus.com/series/series148.htm
There was no change in format however.
4. It appears that although both books have an 1897 copyright, the
first editions have an 1898 at the base of the title page. The imprint
for the first editions is Henry Altemus not Henry Altemus Co. or Henry
Altemus Company. The later two imprints date the books from 1900 or
later. (Remember that Altemus incorporated in 1900).
5. The 1899 edition has the date on the bottom of the title page. All
1900 and later books do not have a date on the title page but do have
the "Co. or Company" designation on the Henry Altemus imprint. |
