Half vellum with stereotyped pattern. Right half of the front cover is
red, beige, lavender, blue or pink and has one of 7 different gold gilt patterns. 6 x
4.25.
Series Notes:
1. Although there is only one format, these volumes can be dated as
earlier or later based on the ads in the back of the book. The Altemus
Library is listed in the back with varying numbers of titles. I have
seen 20, 21, 22, and 30 titles listed.
It is uncertain which Altemus Library list (20, 21, or 22) is the
earliest for any particular book but it is known that a list of 30
titles is a later book.
As of this time I have documented the following:
Reveries of a Bachelor-20 titles
Dream Life-21 titles
House of Seven Gables, Scarlet Letter, and Addresses-22 titles
2. In 1894 this series was renamed Famous Red and White Books Series
and more books were added to it.
