Series Notes:
1. This format has two numbering patterns. The first was from the
format's inception 1898-1901. The second numbering pattern "a" was
first used with sub format "e" early in 1902.
2. The second numbering system "a" began with the "e" subformat YPL-2.
At that time Books #31 and 32 (Great Sea Fights of the World also
titled Sea Kings and Naval Heroes and Poor Boys' Chances were deleted.
The new #31 and 32 became Vic; The Autobiography of a Fox-Terrier and
Tales from Shakespeare. Also at that time the numbering changed
significantly from #33-58. Along with the numbering changes, Makers of
America (#57) and Wonder Book for Boys and Girls (#58) were dropped and
replaced with Animal Stories for Little People (58a), Rip Van Winkle
(38a), and Child's Garden of Verses (#39)
3. Book #29 had a title change in 1899 from Heroes of the United States
Army to Military Heroes of the United States.

Format 2 Dust Jacket back ads
This format was published between 1898 and 1902. Because of their age,
dust jackets for these books are difficult to find. The front of the
jackets are plain without colors and match the line drawn pictures on
the front of the books.
The back of the dust jackets have a list of the books in this series. I
have seen seven variants up to this time.
Shown here are earlier dust jackets that list 22 (1898), 26 (early
1899), 29 (later-1899) and 31 books (probably early 1900).
Here are three dust jackets that have the Henry Altemus Company
imprint: the numbering on these dust jackets changed after #30. The
earliest of these lists Great Sea Fights as #31 and Wonder Book as #58.
(1900)
The next Dust jacket ends with #55 Josephine. (Early 1902). The last
Format 2 book has #58 as Animal Stories for Little People. (Later 1902)
