Altemus Company
Board covers. Line drawn picture of a clown next to a bookcase
(illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley). Seen in both red and dark blue. End
papers and frontispiece drawings are line drawn illustrations also by
Aubrey Beardsley. (see below). 6.75 x 5.
Series Notes:
1. These books were co-published with John Lane, a London publisher.
2. It is quite certain that Altemus produced a dust jacket for these
books. I have not seen it however.
3. Aubrey Beardsley, a renowned art nouveau artist of the 1890s, was
the artist of the endpapers, title page, front cover and back cover.
4. It is unclear if Altemus published books #3 and #5. Although these
two books are listed in a Lane/Altemus book as part of this series,
they have not been seen by me as of yet. These books are exceptionally
scarce so to find either of these two books to prove an Altemus
publication will be difficult. |
