The Man Without a Country by Edward Everett Hale

This non series version of this title has 108 pages. It is 6.5 x 5.25. It was initially priced at 50 cents but in the 1920’s the price was raised to 75 cents.

Two versions have been seen.

The later book:
1. Lighter green cover
2. Only four glossy illustrations (not eight as are in the earlier book)
3. Brown lettering on the dust jacket
4. Ads on the back which indicate a $1.00 (not 50 cents) price for the advertised series books.

It is a reprint and originally came in a labeled box.

In this condition it may be worth a couple of dollars.

Q: Hello! I have a copy of “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll, and I have looked through your website trying to find out what edition it is and how much it is worth, but I can not find it. It says “Philadelphia Henry Altemus Company” on the front page. And there is an inscription that says “To Bessie from Mother Dec 25, 1903”. If you could help me that would be wonderful!

There is no fixed value for this book. $10-20 would be reasonable.

Don’ts for U. S. Soldiers by H. Irving Hancock

This 5.5 x 3.5 volume has 152 pages. Three different formats have been noted. All have the same interior text. There are no illustrations.

The book in boards cost 30 cents. The imitation morocco cover cost 60 cents.

The price of the third format in cloth is unknown.

Little Miss Joy Sing by John Luther Long

This 7 x 4.5 volume has 148 pages. There are eight photographs done by W. R. S. Miller. A number of unattributed line drawn illustrations are also included in this book.

This book was priced at $1.00.

Two cover formats have been seen. The text of both is identical $1.00

The presumed earlier edition has gold lettering on the spine. The later book has red lettering.
