New Vademecum Series painting found
Between 1901 and 1907 six different Vademecum formats had European paintings on their covers. These paintings were placed as appliques (paste-ons) within the various year’s decorative pattern. The book shown here contains the 43rd different picture I have seen. Any of the year’s books can have any painting with any color cover. See http://henryaltemus.com/vademecum.htm
As is shown on the page listed above, it has been discovered that frequently two different book cover paintings actually can be combined into a larger picture. This indicates that Altemus took large pictures and cut them up into smaller paintings to use on the front covers of these books.
Even after numerous efforts I have not been able to discover the painter of any of these pictures.
