Q:  I recently obtained this edition from a collection in Oregon, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Any information regarding the book would be greatly appreciated.

A:  Your book is part of the Petit Trianon Series. It was published in 1903-1904.
Originally it was sold within a labeled box.

Q:  Good morning,
These are some photos of an old book (Hamlet) I have that was printed by the Henry Altemus Company. I could not find any dates printed inside the book. I am wondering if you could help me to find out how old the book is as well as the value.


A:  Your book was a published in 1900 as part of the Petit Trianon Series (Third numbering) Series 143.

During this year the left side of the volumes had a stereotyped pattern whereas the right half of the cover had one of numerous decorative patterns.

These books also came within a labeled box. See here

Your book has nominal value only.

Q:  Hello! Would like to know the basics about this lovely book (Child's Garden of Verses) published by Henry Altemus Company. Based on the information in your website, am thinking it was part of the 1907 series, and is of little to no financial value, but it is a treasure to me from my grandmother's bookshelf. Thank you for taking a look!

A:  Your book is part of the Petit Trianon Series and was published in 1907. The format that year had the acorn cover with one of four flowers pictured on the front cover. It originally came within a labeled box. See here for an example.

Q:  Hello, I recently acquired this edition of Two Years Before the Mast. I am having a difficult time finding any kind of information about it so I was wondering if you could shed any light on it.

A:  Your book was published in 1901-1902 and is part of the Petit Trianon Series.

Q:  Greetings, I have a Henry Altemus Company copy of The House of the Seven Gables. It is 4.25" x 6.25". I have attached a scan of the cover, but it doesn’t convey the sparkle of the gold in all the lines, text, and four-leafed symbols. Can you tell me what series it is, and how to ascertain its value in the marketplace? I appreciate any help you can provide.

A:  Hello, Your book is part of the Petit Trianon Series and was published in 1908-1909.

It is a reprint and originally came in a box. See here.

Q:  HI found this book with a few older books and was wondering it's worth!! The Pathway of Promise

A:  This book was published in 1905-1906 and is part of the Petit Trianon Series.

It is a reprint of a not very collectible title. Thus, it has only nominal value.

Q:  I have a old book that says published in 1898... Titled "What is Art" do you know anything of this one?
Strange thing is ... There's a pic of a little girl in the back, that appears to be a sketch .. But she has period clothing on and hair was on shoulders and curly.. Big bow in it.. Holding an umbrella?


A:  Your book was published in 1899 as part of the Petit Trianon Series. During this year the volumes in this series all had the same decoration on the left part of the front cover. On the right half there were numerous decorative patterns seen. All the books within this series are reprints. They were originally sold within a labeled box. (See here)
